First a little background…
Hi everyone and greetings from the sub-Saharan country of Tanzania! My name is Harrison Hickman and this will be my fourth time to Tanzania! I am a world traveller, lifelong learner, and summer intern for TruetoTanzania, a non-profit tourism company located in Moshi, at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. This summer I have been tasked with bringing awareness to the amazing work and fun experiences being had at our home base called, The Watering Hole. Along with the day-to-day activities and work being done, I will be updating our blog as often as I can so you can be a part of my journey and the work we’re doing at The Watering Hole! The Watering Hole is a guest house and bar in Moshi made for guests and travelers of all backgrounds, and where I will call home for the next 3 months!
My time in Tanzania
I first visited Tanzania in 2019 as part of a two-week summer holiday and mission trip with a group from my church. During our time, we stayed in the town of Morogoro where we toured local sites and markets, visited remote Maasai villages, renovated community churches and forged lifelong friendships with locals, not to mention going on safari in Mikumi National Park. I was captivated by the beauty of Tanzania and the wonderful people that call it home and I felt a deep connection. The passion I felt for Tanzania drove me to learn more about the culture and language, and travel twice more to Tanzania in 2021 and ’22. Throughout my time in Tanzania I’ve had the privilege of visiting renowned National Parks like Lake Manyara, Mikumi, and Ngorongoro Crater. Check out some pictures below for some of my favorite memoirs from my time spent in Tanzania. And stay tuned for updates as they come!
